Experiment –Colors
2. Assigning Meanings
•Look for everything Brown in the room
•Now close your eyes (don’t open them)
- With eyes still closed what was Purple in the room.
3. You get what you look for…
Have you ever said:
What’s wrong with that Person?
Why is He such a scum Bag?
How Come I can Never succeed?
4. Assigning Meanings•
- When We Look for something Bad In Others or Self, We will find it!

The Fault Finder
What a picture Jesus paints of the faultfinder!.
Imagine a beam of wood embedded in your eye.
It’s too large for you to dislodge without immense pain.
It’s too terrifying to think of other people prying it out.
Luke 6:42•
“How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’
when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye?
You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye,
and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.“
5. Relational Issues that affect our spirit and grieve God.
Not Practicing What We Preach -Romans 2:21-23
21You then who teach others, do you not teach yourself? While you preach against stealing, do you steal?
•22You who say that one must not commit adultery, do you commit adultery?
•You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? 23You who boast in the law dishonor God by breaking the law.
5. Relational Issues that affect our spirit and grieve God.
We all have reasons to hold grudges. People wrong us. Situations hurt us.
Even God does not always do what we think He should do, so we get angry.
We hold offenses against those who have wronged us, and often against God
who we think should have done things differently. A grudge is nothing more than a refusal to forgive.
So, since this tendency is inherent in all of us and seemingly unavoidable, what does the Bible say about it?
Leviticus 19:18 King James Version (KJV)
•18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people,
but thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself: I am the Lord.

Unforgiveness and Prayer Hindrance
1 Peter 3:7 King James Version (KJV)
•7Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge,
giving honor unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel,
and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

Using the Past to Gauge the Future
Philippians 3:13 ESV
•Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own.
But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind
and straining forward to what lies ahead,
Luke 9:62 ESV
•Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow
and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”
Isaiah 43:18 ESV•
“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old.

Not Practicing Love toward one another!
Colossians 3:13 ESV
•Bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.
•John 13:34 King James Version (KJV)
•34A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
An inch of Sin Produces a foot of Flesh!
6. How to turn it around…
1Corinthians 13•4
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, and it is not proud.
5Love is not rude, it is not selfish, and it cannot be made angry easily.
Love does not remember wrongs done against it.
6Love is never happy when others do wrong, but it is always happy with the truth.
7Love never gives up on people. It never stops trusting, never loses hope, and never quits.
Closing
The short list:
Forgive
Focus on good and redeeming qualities
Don’t go looking for flaws
Don’t assign wrong meanings
Be Reconciled to each other
Love others as you love yourself
1 John 3:21-22 (ESV)
Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God;
and whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments
and do what pleases him.
1 John 5:14-15 (ESV)
And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will
he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the
requests that we have asked of him.
